Emergency Veterinary Care 24 Hours a Day, 7 Days a Week

When your pet needs urgent medical attention, Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center is here around the clock. We provide 24-hour emergency veterinary care every day of the year, including holidays, with at least one veterinarian dedicated exclusively to emergency patients at all times.

While our emergency veterinarian focuses on urgent cases, our specialists and general practice veterinarians continue caring for regularly scheduled patients. This dedicated approach allows us to respond to emergencies while maintaining the care of our hospitalized and specialty patients.

Please Call Before Coming

If your pet is experiencing an emergency, please call OPVMC at (716) 662-6660, Ext. 1 before arriving.

Emergency cases are triaged when they arrive, and patients with life-threatening conditions are prioritized. Calling ahead allows our team to assess the situation, prepare for your arrival when possible, and help manage the flow of emergency patients.

Because emergencies are unpredictable, wait times can sometimes be lengthy, particularly when multiple critical patients arrive at once. We appreciate your patience as our team gives each patient the care they need.

When Does Your Pet Need Emergency Care?

Contact us immediately if your pet is experiencing a potentially serious or life-threatening problem, including:

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Trauma, such as being hit by a car, serious bite wounds, or active bleeding
  • Difficulty urinating
  • A distended or swollen abdomen
  • Pale, white, or abnormal-colored gums
  • Unresponsiveness or collapse
  • Seizures
  • Paralysis or sudden loss of limb function
  • Possible heat stroke
  • Ingestion of a potentially toxic substance
  • Vomiting or diarrhea accompanied by loss of appetite or other concerning symptoms
  • Diabetic emergencies or significant changes in a diabetic pet’s condition

If you’re not sure whether your pet’s condition requires emergency care, trust your instincts and call us. Our team can help you determine the most appropriate next step.

Advanced Care When Your Pet Needs It Most

Emergency patients at OPVMC have access to the hospital’s extensive diagnostic and treatment capabilities, and if a pet requires hospitalization, our 24-hour Intensive Care Unit provides ongoing monitoring and treatment by experienced veterinarians and veterinary support staff.

Animal Surrenders & Healthy Strays

OPVMC is unable to accept animal surrenders or healthy stray animals. Our kennel space is reserved for current patients and animals requiring emergency veterinary care. If you have found a healthy stray or need to surrender an animal, please contact your local animal shelter or rescue organization.

Our goal is to be there for your pet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
