Compassionate Cancer Care With Your Pet’s Quality of Life in Mind

A cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming. At Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center, our oncology team is here to help you understand your pet’s diagnosis, explore their treatment options, and make thoughtful decisions based on what matters most: their comfort and quality of life.

Our board-certified veterinary oncologist, Dr. Ashley Case, DVM, DACVIM (Oncology), specializes in medical oncology for dogs and cats. She works closely with our diagnostic, surgical, internal medicine, and critical care teams to provide comprehensive care throughout your pet’s cancer journey.

What Is Veterinary Oncology?

Veterinary oncology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of cancer in animals. While cancer treatment can involve surgery, radiation, or other specialized therapies, OPVMC’s oncology service focuses primarily on medical oncology, including oral and injectable medications and chemotherapy.

Treatment isn’t about pursuing every possible option at any cost. Instead, Dr. Case will help you understand what treatment may accomplish, what your pet may experience, and how different options may affect their quality of life.

Your Pet’s Cancer Consultation

Your first oncology visit begins with a thorough review of your pet’s medical history, previous testing, and diagnosis. Additional diagnostic testing may be recommended to better understand the type and extent of the cancer.

With our extensive in-house diagnostic capabilities, testing may include:

  • Laboratory testing and cytology
  • Digital radiography
  • Ultrasound
  • CT or MRI
  • Additional diagnostic procedures when appropriate

Once your pet’s condition has been evaluated, Dr. Case will discuss their diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment options with you. You’ll have the opportunity to ask questions and make an informed decision about the path that’s right for your family.
